Born in Holon, Israel, soprano Sigal Chen was exposed to music at an early age, as her father who is an accomplished musician, singer and Cantor was her first mentor. Ms. Chen received her elementary education at the Moshe Hess School. She graduated from Makif Hey High School where she was a music and theater trend-acting major, taking part in theatrical productions and frequently performing as soloist in many musical events.
In 2002 she entered the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance where she studied with Agnes Massini and earned a Bachelor of Music Degree. As a member of the Academy's Opera Studio, she performed roles in Opera Scenes including Adele in Die Fledermaus, Frau Fluth in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, First Nymph in Rusalka, Naide in Ariadne auf Naxos, and the title role in Ponchielli's Lina. She also appeared in opera and operetta programs at Jerusalem's Cinemateck Hall, as well as The Mormon University for an evening of Bel Canto Arias and Duets. In 2005 Ms. Chen was chosen to create the musically demanding role of Susanna in the world premiere of Israeli composer Aharon Harlap's Hebrew Opera, Therese Raquin, at the Israel Music Festival with the Jerusalem Academy Orchestra.
In 2007 Ms. Chen came to New York where she studied with Gerald Martin Moore, Robert Cowart, Elizabeth Blancke-Biggs and Michael Rechiutti. Ongoing New York City appearances for which she is prominently recognized and has received high praise from many politicians and public figures include Holocaust commemoration events at New York's City Hall, United Jewish Appeal, as well as many solo and duet recitals and appearances as Choral Soloist.
